In one line: your recordings are yours. VoiceDrop never sells your data, shows no ads, and never tracks you for advertising. To turn recordings into articles, your audio and text pass through the processors listed below — solely to produce your results, nothing else.
What we collect
Recordings — the audio you create by tapping record. Recordings are uploaded to a private storage area that belongs to you (scoped to your account) and mirrored to your iCloud. To transcribe them and turn them into articles, audio and transcript text are sent to the processors listed under "Processors we use" below; beyond that we never access them for any other purpose.
Photos (optional) — photos you add to an article are uploaded to the same private storage, used only to display inside your article.
Location (optional) — if you grant location access, the app reverse-geocodes your current position into a coarse place name (city / district) used only to name the recording file so you can recognize it later. Precise coordinates are never stored or transmitted. You can deny location and recording still works.
Microphone — used to record audio; if you use the AI Interviewer, microphone audio during the interview is streamed to OpenAI in real time to generate the interviewer's spoken responses.
Identifier — to scope your files to you, the app uses an anonymous identifier, the stable anonymous identifier (Apple "sub") returned by Sign in with Apple, or (on Android) the open identifier (openid / unionid) returned by WeChat Login. We do not request or store your name or email, and there is no password.
Referral attribution — if you install via an invite link, the app reads an invite code from your clipboard once on first launch (iOS shows a system notice), and the server briefly matches your IP address for install attribution — used only to grant rewards to both sides of the invite, nothing else.
Usage records — to meter AI credits we record per-feature usage (such as token counts and duration), which contains none of your recording or article content.
Usage analytics — to improve the product we use PostHog (hosted in the USA) to record feature-usage events — such as opening the app, finishing a recording, or running a voice edit — together with device model, OS version and app version. These events are associated with your account identifier, but never contain your recordings, transcripts, article text or conversation content, and are never used for advertising.
Processors we use
Turning a recording into an article requires these service providers. Each processes your data only to deliver the corresponding feature; we have no advertising or data-sale relationship with any of them:
Cloudflare (USA) — file storage (R2) and network delivery.
Volcano Engine / ByteDance (China) — speech-to-text. Your recording audio is sent to their servers located in China for transcription.
Anthropic (USA) — Claude turns transcripts into article drafts and powers follow-up questions, writing-style features and more.
OpenAI (USA) — the AI Interviewer's real-time voice conversation, and some AI illustration generation.
PostHog (USA) — product usage analytics. Receives only feature-usage events and device environment info; it never touches your recordings or article content.
Cross-border note: this means your audio and text are processed on servers in China and the United States. By using VoiceDrop you acknowledge and agree to this processing.
What we don't do
We never sell your recordings or data, and never share them with any third party beyond the processors listed above.
The app contains no advertising SDKs; product analytics records feature usage only and never includes any of your content.
We do not track you across other apps or websites for advertising.
Community & public sharing
Only content you actively share becomes public — creating a public link, sharing to the community, or publishing to WeChat. Everything else stays private by default. Public content can be seen and replied to by other users, and you can delete it at any time.
Storage & deletion
Recordings are stored in Cloudflare R2 (under your own prefix) and mirrored to your iCloud. You can delete any recording or article at any time, and the in-app Account page lets you permanently delete your account and all data in one tap. You can also email
jianshuo@hotmail.com and I'll take care of it promptly.
Children
VoiceDrop is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
